Description
Nephrite is a mineral of class 9, according to the classification of Strunz. It is a hard and fine-grained variety of actinolite; it is the most common and least valuable of the two types of jade that exist, the other being jadeite. It is a calcium magnesium silicate or iron from metamorphic rocks.
It usually appears as compact aggregates of interwoven fibers that may be translucent or opaque and, normally, green and mottled with darker shades. It is distinguished from jadeite by its oily shine and because it splinters when fracturing
